Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Hyundai Veloster Turbo made its official worldwide premiere at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. The US-market model features a 1,6L turbo GDI engine with more than 200 horsepower, mated to the six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

A few months later, Hyundai also intoruduced the Euro-specs Veloster Turbo. The vehicle sports the same body-style as its US-market sibling with large hexagonal signature grille being the most notable feat that diferentiates the base 138-horsepower Veloster from the "turbo" model.

Now, speaking of the European Hyundai Veloster Turbo, the Euro-specs Veloster features the same 1,6L turbo engine as the US-market sibling, however, the unit makes slightly less power. Compared to the US-market Veloster, the Euro-specs model packs 183 horsepower, which is about 20 hp less than its US counterpart.

On the other side, the Euro-specs Hyundai Veloster Turbo generates slightly more torque and that is also the main reason why Hyundai engineers re-tuned the initial powerplant set-up.

According to Hyundai staff, European consumers prefer low end-power and higher torque for better driveability. This was also the main reason to make the European Hyundai Veloster Turbo slightly less powerful.
